- 2 cups button mushrooms cleaned and halved
- 2 tbsp olive oil or unsalted butter for extra richness
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 teaspoon of fresh thyme leaves or ½ teaspoon of dried thyme.
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley chopped
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Optional: A splash of white wine or balsamic vinegar for extra depth
Prepare the Mushrooms: Clean your mushrooms with a damp cloth or rinse quickly under water. Pat them dry and slice them in half for even cooking.
Heat the Pan: In a large skillet, heat olive oil or butter over medium-high heat. Swirl the pan to coat evenly.
Cook the Mushrooms: Spread the mushrooms out in a single layer, ensuring ample space for proper caramelization. Allow them to cook undisturbed to form a golden-brown crust (for about 2–3 minutes ).
Incorporate Garlic and Herbs: Mix in the minced garlic and thyme. Cook for another 2–3 minutes, allowing the garlic to soften and release its aroma.
Season to Taste: Sprinkle the mushrooms with salt and pepper. If using white wine or balsamic vinegar, deglaze the pan by adding a splash and stirring to coat the mushrooms.
Finish with Parsley: Remove the skillet from heat and toss the mushrooms with fresh parsley for a burst of color and flavor.
